Mental Health Awareness
A 2.5-hour session, designed for colleagues and leaders.
Education is a high-pressure environment requiring resilience and strength on physical, emotional and mental levels in order to support students, parents, colleagues and ourselves effectively. This course enables delegates to support their own and others’ mental good health.
why come on the course?
- Do you or your team need a better understanding of mental wellbeing?
- Would you like to raise awareness of mental health in your organisation?
- Do you want your people to understand their individual responsibilities around mental health?
- Are you keen to create an organisational culture where the importance of good mental health is valued, and people support each other?
If you’ve answered yes to any of the above questions, then this course is for your school or college.
What is it?
A theatre-based workshop in which we meet a number of education colleagues who are either experiencing a variety of mental health problems, or who are in some way impacted by others who may be suffering. The workshop is designed to be fun, engaging and at times, challenging. It reflects some of the real-life scenarios experienced in an educational environment.
What will I do on the day?
Through a variety of observational and interactive activities, delegates will engage on an emotional level and develop a sense of empathy for the characters they meet. Exploring sometimes difficult issues in a safe environment, delegates will feel more confident to discuss mental health issues in the future.
Mental Health Awareness
embedding the learning.
Using a theatre-based learning approach to this course supports a deeper comprehension of mental wellbeing. By meeting different characters, delegates are able to use questioning to clarify their own understanding, relating situations to their own experience and embedding the learning on a more personal level.
We also offer further additional digital resources to support extended learning as a blended option.
Mental Health Awareness
Learning Outcomes.
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Identify some of the common mental health problems and describe the typical associated symptoms.
- Proactively dispel the myths surrounding mental health and remove the stigma associated with mental health problems
- Identify typical examples of both helpful and unhelpful language used when referring to mental health problems.
- Explain what support mechanisms are in place and be able to describe the referral process if you (or a colleague) are experiencing mental health problems.
Some faq's about Mental Health Awareness.
0.1What is Theatre based learning?
Theatre Based Learning is the technique we use to bring learning to life by using our actors to perform scenarios, based on real case studies.
Theatre Based Learning can be either observational (where learners watch scenes and discuss) OR participative (where we use techniques like real-play and practice, forum where learners interact with the actors and direct them or hot-seating where learners give feedback to individual characters and make suggestions). This course uses our actors to both demonstrate presentation skills and often made mistakes and techniques with the ability for all learners to present and receive feedback
